Spaceabet

This was a personal project that started when I sketched a single letter. A friend challenged me to do the entire alphabet, and Spaceabet was born. It evolved into an exercise in patience and passion, starting with hand-drawn illustrations in a dot-grid sketchbook to full vector art, poster, and then font. The pencil before pixels approach was a welcome return to the things that make me excited about design to begin with.

Challenge

Patience was critical for this project. Each letter took 1-3 hours depending on how complicated it was. I took it slow and allowed myself to enjoy the process without focusing a timeline.

Solution

As I finished each letter, I shared videos of the process on my personal social media. This was my first time doing such a thing, and it was a validating experience to share the process with people I care about. After completing the sketches, I vectorized each letter.

Results

After completing the letters, I created a posted which is still available on Etsy, and a font that was more of an exercise to see if I could more than to actually sell. This poster gave me the confidence - and inventory - to create the Etsy shop, and I got some shares on social media that again validated the path from doodle to passion project.
